Avoid turning your computer off with the power switch until Windows has shut down. This rule should be followed in order to avoid any damage to the hard drives, which are used by the computer. Even in case of a system freeze, try to use ctrl + alt + delete rather than immediately pressing the main switch off button as maybe there is still a chance of unfreezing the system. If there is still no luck, try to shut down the computer using the ctrl + alt + delete trough windows task manager and going to the shut down tab. You can also make a habit out of backing up your system or at least of the files and data in order to eliminate the chance of loosing precious data. Cd’s, DVD’s, Zip disks etc. could be used as a storage medium. Defragment at least once a month. This will keep your hard drive healthy and prevent crashes. It may also increase the processing speed of the computer. Never unplug peripherals from the computer when it is powered up. Unplugging with the power on can short out the connector socket or the motherboard.
